Action Packed Basketball Tournament

Men’s Basketball Championship Since 1937, the NAIA’s Athletics Men’s Basketball National Championship has been held annually with the exception of 1944. The tournament was founded by James Naismith to crown a champion for smaller colleges and universities. The NAIA Tournament consists of thirty-two teams competing at one location in one week. Since 1992, the NAIA has hosted two championship divisions. The Division I tournament is played in Kansas City, Missouri while the Division II is held at the Keeter Gymnasium of the College of the Ozarks in Lookout, Missouri.

The College of the Ozarks is committed to provide free education to worthy students who have no sufficient means to enter college education. The college offers students Work Education Program where they work in exchange of a free tuition but with the highest quality of Christian education. The Missouri Department of Education awarded the College of the Ozarks in 1994 as number one in ranking – the only such ranking by the Department as recognition of the college commitment to its mission.

The original purpose of the school was to provide an opportunity for a high school education for young people in the Ozark region. In 1956, the school added two years of junior college to the four-year high school program. By 1964, the Board voted to make the two-year program into a four-year college course that began in September 1965. That same year, the school was given preliminary accreditation by the North Central Association. By August 1971, the association granted the school full-accreditation.

The College of the Ozarks hosted the 23rd NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship in March 2014 in Point Lookout, Missouri.  The tournament featured thirty-two teams playing in a single-elimination format. The championship was won by Indiana Wesleylan of Marion, Indiana. This 2015 NAIA Division II Basketball Tournament will also be held in the College of the Ozarks. The college received an automatic bid as the host team because it leads the field in total invitations. The schedule of the 24th Annual NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship will be held on March 11 to 17, 2015 in the same venue in Point Lookout, Missouri.

This basketball tournament of 32 teams features the champions of the Division II conferences and regional tournaments. The first round will be played on March 11 with eight games. The second round will start on Friday, March 13 also with eight games. Quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, March 14 with only four games. Semifinals will be on Monday, March 16 and the championship game will be on Tuesday, March 17. This NAIA Division II Basketball Championship in March 2015 in the College of the Ozarks is sponsored by the following: The Track Family Fun Parks, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Big Cedar Lodge, Hiland Dairy Foods, Sodexo Quality of Life Services, and Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner Show Attraction.
