nature trailDewey Short Visitor’s Center is one of the most popular tourist destinations where you can enjoy a greatBranson outdoor activity. The nature center of the Dewey Short Visitor’s Center features three films and displays of local flora and fauna. The visitor center offers a nice nature trail which is perfect for breeze walking in a relaxing environment. On the grounds of the visitor’s center, you may enjoy swimming, picnicking, scuba diving or fishing along the shoreline of Table Rock Lake. If you arrive by boat by the lake through the State Park Marina, you can take advantage of the courtesy dock located on the Visitor’s Center grounds.

Popularly known as the ‘’The Crown Jewel of Table Rock Lake’’, Dewey Short Visitor’s Center offers a magnificent view of two Branson’s lakes – Table Rock Lake and Lake Taneycomo. This new, $7.9 million, 15,000 square foot building features displays on the history of the Ozarks, Branson’s natural scenery, and state-of-the-art interactive map of Table Rock Lake. Other exhibits displayed at the visitor center include beautiful artistic wall murals and a replica of an Ozarks bluff. The Ozarks dioramas and a Native American artifact exhibits are some of the fascinating features of the interpretive visitor center.

While you are at the Visitor’s Center, you can have the opportunity to enjoy Branson outdoor activity by touring the Table Rock Dam. An interactive water safety exhibit at the Dewey Short Visitor’s Center demonstrates the importance of wearing a life jacket, and an expansive cut-away model that shows the inner operations of hydroelectric dam. The interesting history of the Corps of Engineers that have contributed much to the completion of the dam can be found at the vast displays of exhibits inside the visitor center.

The Dewey Short Visitors Center was named after a Republican Congressman from Missouri’s 7th Congressional District by the name Dewey Jackson Short has been elected for twelve terms in office. Dewey Short was a staunch supporter of the Table Rock Dam. He became the biggest advocate in helping raise funds for the dam project. With Dewey Short’s effort, the construction of the dam was started in 1954 and completed in 1959. Today, the visitors to the Dewey Short Visitors Center will learn the interesting story of the dam and more about Congressman Dewey Short’s vision.

Set up on the shores of the lake, the distinct and modern building of the Dewey Short Visitor Center features outdoor viewing deck, a walking path, and a rock garden with wooden bridge. The center features a theater where visitors can watch the film about the construction of the dam and the Discovery Shop, a unique gift shop that features hard-to-find products from local artists and craftsmen such as wood carving and jewelries. You will also find inside the shop Table Rock themed merchandise, hats and t-shirts.

The Dewey Short Visitor Center near the Table Rock Lake offers a wonderful Branson outdoor activity where you can experience a nice breeze walking on a beautiful nature trail.
