These high flying birds migrate south from their nesting ground in Great Lakes states and Canada to hunt around the open waters of Missouri rivers and lakes. These birds migrate to Missouri because of abundance of fish in lakes and streams.
The Bald Eagles in the Ozarks region are some of the most fascinating attractions where tours are offered to Branson visitors beginning middle of autumn season. The perfect time to view bald eagles is in the month of January, a National Bald Eagle Month where you can view them along the Meramec River in the Ozarks. If you try a great water adventure like rafting or canoeing along the river, there’s a big chance that you will see the bald eagles nesting on trees, or diving for fish.
During the cold months, Missouri is reportedly to have more than 2,000 bald eagles, making this state to have the most bald eagles in the Midwest. When the northern part of Missouri freezes, most of these birds migrate to open water in the south scattering as far as the gulf coast. They begin to move back north in late February. By early spring, most have returned to their nests in Great Lakes and Canada where they come from before they migrate to Missouri.
