How to Make a Pumpkin Pie

As autumn is the season for pumpkins, pumpkin pie can be a perfect piece to prepare inside your accommodation.

Pumpkin PieMany of us love pumpkins, by growing them, carving them for the Halloween, and making a pie. To start making a pumpkin pie, select any squash, look for the one that is firm, no soft spots, and with a good orange color. You need to know that commercial canned pumpkin comes from a variety of butternut, not true pumpkins. If you insist on using a regular type pumpkin, you may need to add about 25% more sugar and run the cooked pumpkin through a blender to help smooth it out.

To prepare the pumpkin for cooking, wash the exterior of it in cool or warm water, no soap. Cut it in half. Now scoop out the seeds and scrape the insides. Saving the seeds can be useful to plant it next year or roast it. Place them in a bowl of water and rub them to pick out the orange buds and drain the water. Spread them on a clean towel or paper to dry and they’re ready to save for next year’s planting season.

To start making a pumpkin pie, first preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Put 1 piece of pre-made pie dough into a 9-inch pie pan and press down along the bottom and all sides. Pinch the edges together to make a nice pattern. Place the pie shell back into the freezer for 1 hour to firm up. Cover the inside of the shell completely with aluminum foil. Fill the shell up to the edges with pie weights and place it in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes, remove the foil and pie weights and bake for another 10 minutes or until the crust is dried out and beginning to color.

Beat the cream cheese with a hand mixer and fill it in a large mixing bowl. Add the pumpkin and beat until combined. Add sugar and salt, and beat until combined. Add the eggs mixed with the yolks and melted butter and beat until combined. Finally, add the cinnamon, vanilla, and ginger if you intent to use, and beat until incorporated. Now pour the filling into the warm pie crust and bake for 50 minutes, or until the center is set. Place the pie on a rack and cool to room temperature, place a generous amount of whipped cream and slice into pieces.
