Still Too Cold Outside? Let’s Jog!

winter joggingFor most joggers, jogging under the heat of the sun is not fun, so winter season is a perfect time for them to jog outside especially in the Ozarks where they can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and great surrounding in the hillsides of the Ozark mountains. Many interesting Branson outdoors during winter season offer great opportunity for joggers and hikers where they will enjoy many fascinating hiking trail systems. Jogging or hiking around Branson or anywhere in the Ozark region, is an interesting hobby to enjoy Branson outdoors as it can help melt calories away.

The Ozark Mountain Region offers some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the US. Here you can enjoy easy jogging to moderate hikes through beautiful glades and forested woods, or challenging jogs past beautiful scenery, rugged hollows, or waterfalls in mountain wilderness. The Ozark Mountain Region offers year-round of jogging or hiking adventures for all ages. The abundant wildlife of this hiking trail will let you see wild turkey, lizards, fox, bald eagles and herds of deer in the forests.

The Lakeside Forest Wilderness Area is one of interesting Branson outdoors that offers a nature escape for joggers and hikers with 140 acres of wooded and rugged hill country. Upon its inception in 1998, this area was envisioned to showcase the beautiful natural scenery of the Ozarks. Its convenient location near Highway 76, gives easy accessibility to residents and visitors alike. After the acquisition of the Owen’s Homestead in 2010, the Wildness Area devoted time and energy in improving the park. A large wooden log archway was built over an ornamental iron gate with a decorative native stone veneer that welcomes visitors to the park.

With a continuing concept of improving the park, a parking lot was developed. This new 6,000 square foot parking lot is made of donated permeable parking lot paver stones with a walkway made of trail pavers giving the park improved access to joggers, walkers, and hikers from Highway 76. In the past two years, a hiking trail of 1.3 miles have been added which now totals 4.4 miles of trails. The park has more plans to put up more trails in the future.

Located southwest of Branson on Highway 86 is the Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, a privately-owned 10,000 acre park. This nature park offers beautiful natural rock bluffs, dozens of waterfalls, tree-lined fields, crystal clear streams teeming with brown and rainbow trout, and on-site shopping and dining as well as exciting activities ideal for casual outdoor enthusiasts to the season adventurer. Inside the park, you can enjoy miles of paved trail for nice jogging, walking and hiking, biking, horseback riding, and guided tram and jeep tours with paid admission to the park. Visitors can have the chance to see bison, longhorns, and elk on the guided tram tours.

If you don’t feel comfortable jogging under the heat of the sun, winter season is a fun way to jog outside especially in the Ozarks where you can enjoy many beautiful natural sceneries.
