The Shepherd of the Hills Homestead Tour is a popular attraction in Branson that tell the history of American literature. The popular novel Shepherd of the Hills authored by Harold Bell Wright is an interesting book that described the lives of the people in the Ozarks region. This fascinating novel about the folks that once lived in the Ozarks continues to inspire people to this day where readers can have the opportunity to learn the traditions, history, and the legend of the Shepherd of the Hills.

Shepherd of the Hills Enjoy a wonderful daytime activity as you roam around this awesome attraction in Branson. This 60-minute tour of the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead will let you hop on a jeep-drawn tram and make first stop at the original structure of Old Matt’s cabin. The cabin served as home of the Ross family for more than 30 years before it became part of the history. Numerous antiques and historical items including clothing worn by John and Anna Ross, photographs, tools, cooking utensils, and some of their furniture can be found inside the cabin.

The Homestead Tour includes a visit to the Inspiration Point where you see a monument in honor of Harold Bell Wright. This is the site where Wright compiled his notes for his best selling novel. The tour also includes a visit to the site of Old Matt’s grist mill where you will see a carved image of the Old Mill Theatre. This historic tour at the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead is a great way to see amazing step-back-in-time production where you get to learn the history of the beloved story of the folks who once lived in the hills of the Ozarks.

The next stop of the Homestead Tour will be at a quaint church which was relocated to this area from Morgan County, Missouri. Constructed in 1902, the church has some resemblance with the preaching of Harold Bell Wright during his time. From here you will see the place where the Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama is performed. You will be guided down on set where you will see up close with Old Matt’s steam engine and grist mill.

The Homestead Tour honors the site that played an important role in the immensely popular novel Shepherd of the Hills of Harold Bell Wright. The tour takes every visitor throughout the property including the campsite spot used by Wright to assemble his notes for his best selling novel and the Inspiration Point that stood in the second highest mountain peak in Missouri. In the site, you will find a monument of Harold Bell Wright and statues of the characters of his novel that include Old Matt, Young Matt, The Shepherd, Aunt Mollie, Sammy Lane, and Little Pete.
