The History of the Promised Land Zoo


Promised Land Zoo in Branson was established in 1999 and was run as a family business. The zoo started its operation with just a few animals and has grown to over 500 animals and expanded to more than 120 acres. The zoo is open to the public year round with daily opening times from 9 am to 7 pm. Visitors to the Promised Land Zoo can have the opportunity to bottle feed animals daily from 10 am, 2 pm, and 6 pm. The zoo features hundreds of animals that come from around the world. Some of these animals include antelope, kangaroo, deer, lemurs, tropical birds, large reptiles and many more.

Promised Land Zoo offers a complete fun and a unique animal kingdom adventure for visitors of all ages. The zoo provides personal tour to visitors who want to get up close and personal with the animals. Get the chance to bottle feed a camel, a monkey, or hear stories about the zoo from your personal tour guide. See some amusing creatures such as goats and ponies and be delighted with colorful parrots that will make fun of you with their impressive language.

Promised Land ZooThe petting zoo allows every visitor to get up close and feed horses, goats, porcupine, tortoise, hogs and much more. When you drive through the vast property of the zoo, you will be greeted by deer, emus, buffalo which all of them expecting something to eat. If you don’t want to frustrate them, buy some food at the shop. As you drive along, you may stop for awhile to feed animals every time they come near. The animals will come near your window and may grab the food out from your hands. If you have plenty of time, you can drive for an hour and enjoy looking at the animals that roam around the property.

The zoo is truly a bizarre place that in just one minute you’re in the middle of nowhere of the wooded hills of the Ozarks, the next minute you see herd of zebras, horses, and buffalos while some speedy ostriches chasing your car. To bring home these memories, be sure to take a camera with you – you may love to snap photos of Forrest Hump (a baby camel), squirrel monkeys, and an adorable Zebra. See also the zoo’s popular baby animal Olive Baboon named Calamity Jane that is fed and raised by animal show performer Jungle Josh.

The Promised Land Zoo welcomes all visitors to take pictures around or ask some questions. The zoo also features live animal shows daily where show performer Jungle Josh and his helpers take animals for visitors to feed while Jungle Josh talks about each exotic animal. If you want to take some souvenir items, you can find it at the zoo gift shop that features stuffed animals and zoo themed merchandise.
