Wynonna was born in Ashland, Kentucky and learned to play guitar in 1976 when she was just eight years old. Her mother’s love of country music heavily influenced her. In 1979, Wynonna and her mother moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. As a mother and daughter tandem, she and her mother, Naomi, were signed to RCA Records in 1983. They were known that time by the name of The Judds and they created 23 hit singles together. Fourteen of those were Billboard Hot Country Singles No. 1 hits. They were able to record eight studio albums, a Christmas album, and a Greatest Hits compilation.
The Judds sold 20 million records worldwide and won over 60 country music awards. In 1991, Wynonna’s mother Naomi retired. From that time, Wynonna started her solo career in music with MCA Records and with them she created “She Is His Only Need”, “I Saw The Light”, and “No One Else on Earth.” She recorded seven studio albums, worked on numerous compilation records, and had 20 singles. This talented country singer was also nominated several times for Grammy Awards. Not only did Wynonna star in TV shows such as The Judds and Dancing With the Stars, she was also active in many charities and even received the USO’s Merit Award.
The awards and accolades received by Wynonna Judd in 1992 include Billboard Country Single Award for “No One Else On Earth”, Billboard Best New Country Artist Award, and NARM Best Selling Country Female Award. In 1993, she was awarded Playboy Concert of the Year Award and in 1994, she’s got Academy of Country Music Top Female Artist Award.
Not known to many country music fans, country music had originated in southern United States in the 1920s. Stemming from both Western music and American folk, country music started to become popular in the 1940s. Today, country music is the second most popular music choice for music fans to listen to in many parts of the country or even the world over. Melodious and harmonious tunes of country music tend to be relatively simple and are mostly played on vocals and even on instruments. Over the years, country music has become more popular and can always be heard in radio stations, thus attracting a wider fan-base and propelling country music artists onto the world stage.
On December 9, 2017, don’t miss to see a music show in Branson where Wynonna Judd will be performing live along with The Big Noise Christmas Show.
