When Wynonna Judd and her mother Naomi moved to Nashville in 1979, they pursued a career in country music, and they were later signed to RCA Records in 1983. They were known as The Judds that time and created 23 hit singles together. Fourteen of those were Billboard Hot Country Singles No. 1 hits.
They were able to record eight studio albums, a Christmas album, and a Greatest Hits compilation. In 1991, Naomi retired. That time opened a window of opportunity to Wynonna to go solo and signed with MCA Records where she recorded “She Is His Only Need”, “I Saw The Light”, and “No One Else on Earth”.
Wynonna was nominated several times for Grammy Awards. Not only did Wynonna star in TV shows such as The Judds and Dancing with the Stars, she was also active in many charities and even received the USO’s Merit Award.
This talented singer received awards and accolades in 1992 that include Billboard Country Single Award for “No One Else On Earth”, Billboard Best New Country Artist Award, and NARM Best Selling Country Female Award. In 1993, she was awarded Playboy Concert of the Year Award and in 1994, she’s got Academy of Country Music Top Female Artist Award.
Wynonna and The Big Noise released their debut full-length album in February 2016 via Curb Records to critical acclaim. Wynonna has described the new sound as “vintage yet modern” and a “return to the well.” It’s a rootsy work encompassing country, Americana, blues, soul and rock. The album features special guests Derek Trucks, Jason Isbell, Susan Tedeschi and Timothy B. Schmit.
