Gary Lewis is widely known as one of the most talented singer/songwriters of his time. This famous singer has made great accomplishments such as 8 Gold Singles, 17 Top 40 Hits, 4 Gold Albums, and 45 million records sold worldwide. Gary Lewis and The Playboys, Dennis Tufano, and La La Brooks are known to perform one of the hottest Branson shows that many visitors don’t want to miss. A famous performer known for his outstanding singing and songwriting abilities, Gary Lewis is sure to astound everyone in the audience.
The son of a famous father, Jerry Lewis, the younger Lewis is often faced with difficulties in finding and maintaining his own identity. But when Gary Lewis and The Playboys auditioned for the first time at Disneyland, no one there knew Gary. When the entertainment director of the park like what he saw and heard, he hired Gary and the boys on the spot – much to their surprise. The audience enthusiastically accepted the boys from the very first night, and as many got to know them, it was not long before they were playing to a packed entertainment venue every night.
Gary Lewis and The Playboys were discovered by producer Snuff Garrett in the summer of 1964. Before long, they took their first single ‘The Diamond Ring’ that went straight to number one. When their second hit ‘Count Me In’ went to number two, Gary and the band saw a success. They followed with more Top 10 songs such as ‘Save Your Heart For Me,’ ‘Everybody Loves a Clown,’ ‘She’s Just My Style, Sure Gonna Miss Her,’ and many more.
In1 965, Gary was awarded by Cash Box magazine “Male Vocalist of the Year”, winning the honor over other nominees such as Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Gary was the first and only artist in the 60’s to have his first seven releases that reached Billboard magazine’s Top 10 on the Hot 100 chart. Along with his appearances on popular television shows including Hullaballo, American Bandstand, and The Tonight Show, Gary landed an impressive five appearances with two years on the Ed Sullivan Show.
