Just within the city limits of Branson, you can enjoy nature fun activity at the Lakeside Wilderness Hiking Trail which is just a short distance from The Strip. This beautiful trail offers some panoramic views of Lake Taneycomo and the College of the Ozarks campus. This wilderness area in Branson is maintained by the city and features plenty of parking spaces at the trailhead which is off Fall Creek Road. The first half mile of Lakeside Wilderness Hiking Trail is wide and suitable for hikers of all ages. As you walk continuously, you could hear the rustling of the wind through trees that makes you think you are miles away from the city but actually a few hundred yards away from The Strip.
After a half-mile trail along the top of the ridge, you can come across some wooden steps and the entrance to the most strenuous portion of the hike, the Cliffwalk Stairway. This stairway consists of 315 stone steps that take you down the hillside. These stone steps were built around 1937 and 1938 and remarkably survived well after seven decades. The stairs where the descent starts offer some of the best photo opportunities with a fantastic view of the College of the Ozarks on the horizon and the beautiful Lake Taneycomo below.
Another great way to enjoy Branson outdoors in the wilderness is to hike or bike in the Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. The wilderness area in this nature park offers stunning views and blooms of wildflowers. If you choose for a more active fun experience, you can enjoy an exciting excursion with the Branson Ozark Zephyr Railway. This vintage passenger train will take you to the foothills of the Ozarks where you can find verdant fields and valleys.
